100 Year Old Wisdom

About 10 years ago, my sister and I visited our grandpa to check out some of his geneolgy research. During that time, he pulled various family artifacts out, including his mother’s Bible.

While flipping through the pages of her Bible, I found this little news clipping.

It struck me then, and strikes me even more now, how important the advice given is. I try daily to spend time in my Bible. But I definitely don’t follow this advice to the T.

I would love to, though. If I can master just one verse a day, committing it to memory, I know my life would be vastly improved. If I start journaling the thoughts God gives me (which I do to an extent now), I can create a heirloom for my girls to use as an example for their own study and for their future children’s study. And if I could be brave enough to share this with one person—someone God puts on my heart, I can see my relationships growing in a godly way.

Biblical wisdom is timeless. Nuggets like this need to be remembered. We need to reimbrace this type of news article and pass the information on. I need to learn these tips and make them part of my very being.

Seeing this memory pop up nearly a year after my grandfather passed away also serves as another reminder to me to embrace the time with my elders, to value their wisdom, and to listen to their stories.

This time of year, and always, I want to remember the truth of ancient wisdom, and let the elders in my life impart their life-long wisdom into my life.

I don’t know where you are in your spiritual journey, but I hope you look at this little piece of advice from over 100 years ago and try to implement a bit of it into your own life. Who knows what might change if you do? I’m hoping to see some changes in my own life as I attempt to follow this advice as well.
