Adding to the Routines

Motherhood is currently hard. Being postpartum AND pregnant is not something I have experienced before, and I don't really know if it's one or the other that is more intense or the combination of the two that is the cause of my current struggle.

I know that in seasons like these, we need to be gentle with ourselves and not put too much pressure on our lives, but I've also noticed that when I am too gentle with myself, I get lazy, and then I get overwhelmed, and then the struggle is harder.

So instead, in this harder season, I've tried my best to institute more routines. Routines give me something to expect, something to base my day off of. Routines give me the stability to move through the day when all I really want to do is crawl into my bed with a book and hide from the world.

The routines I have aren't mind-shattering routines that will change the world. But, they have helped me tremendously.

Do I still hit 4 o'clock and feel overwhelmed and overstimulated? Sometimes, absolutely. Especially on the days when the baby is a little more cranky or the kids are fighting a little extra. But, the evening routine gives me a little light at the end of the tunnel, knowing the majority of our day is done, and that we are all still alive and happy and healthy.

And that's where this blog is coming in. I decided that I need an outlet. I need to write. I need to think and type. Even if this is all non-sense, I need to say something to the world and put my mark out there.

This blog used to be such a breath of fresh air for me; something I enjoyed working on and looked forward to spending time on. But it got overwhelming when I went and planned posts and edited and polished them before posting.

So, this time, the goal is to just post something every evening--as long as I have service. Maybe it'll be post, or maybe it'll just be three things I've grateful for that happened that day. But, I am realizing I need something that book ends my day.

Morning: Bible and prayer. Evening: brain dump in a blog.

We'll see what happens, and where this goes! Maybe it'll last a day. Or a week. Or maybe it will be the breath of fresh air I need to add to my routines and help me get through the end of my day.

Only time will tell.
