I recently shared that I struggle as a homemaker. It's not that I don't enjoy it. It's that I never learned how to clean. I've been working a lot harder at managing our spaces, but I still rely on my lists.
I shared this list on Instagram the other day and got a slew of requests that I share it, so I thought I would make an easy place to do that.
This list is not exhaustive, but it is what I use on a daily basis to keep me on track. I have also added habits that I like to prioritize (reading my Bible first, spending time outside, reading for myself daily, reading with my kids each morning) on to this chart, because I love when I look down at the end of the day and see that I prioritized my priorities over mindless activities like scrolling Instagram or Facebook, or watching TV. It helps me stay accountable to myself.
I also added monthly tasks that need to get done, but are so often forgotten.
My favorite part of this list is my Closing Check List, though. It's a small list of things I do each afternoon and/or evening to make my next morning that much more manageable. Most of the time, I work on these while I'm cooking dinner, and if I don't, the list takes about 15 minutes right after the kids go to sleep.
And, as a much needed reminder, two Bible verses sandwich these lists:
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” - Philippians 2:3
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” - Ephesians 2:10
Because, if we're honest with ourselves, we humans tend to be pretty selfish when it comes to doing something we don't particularly enjoy (for me, that's cleaning)! So, Paul's words to the Philippians and the Ephesians are good reminders for me, and I hope they are for you too.
However it works out, dear momma, just remember that God's grace covers your day. If it doesn't work one day, try it again the next day. Making a habit stick isn't easy work, but the reward is well worth it!
