So often we hear the saying, “Choose a life you love.” I’ve been thinking about that saying a lot this last week or so, and the implications of actually following it.

We all have seasons in our lives that are more difficult than others. Maybe the flu is slowly traveling through your house, knocking one person out at a time and you are the lucky mom to lose ALL the sleep. Or maybe you’ve realized your debt is crippling your family’s future and you’ve chosen to dramatically change your lifestyle and you have to say “no” more than “yes!” Maybe you are just feeling like your life is just full of disappointment or loss after disappointment or loss!

If in those circumstances, you really do decide to choose a life you love, you might be running off to Mexico and forgetting any of these problems. And then, where does that leave the life you’re living?

The fact is, we make choices every day. And each of those choices has led us to where we are. We have chosen our life. We must choose whether we love it or hate it. Yes, some things do happen to us. But we still can choose how to react to those things.

So instead of “choosing a life you love,” I say it’s so much more important to choose to love your life. Even when the bad happens!

Embrace your choices. Embrace your circumstances. Even if those choices brought you somewhere more difficult than you’ve hoped. Even if your circumstances are not perfect. Even if the bad seems to keep happening to you!

You’ll never be happy until you find contentment in what you have. So instead of wishing for another life and choosing a life that may not belong to you in that moment, choose to love the life you’ve got.

Because if you really take a look around, it is gorgeous.
