When Errands Count as a Date

It was time. We needed to go to the giant warehouse store. This is an errand I normally tackle during the week, but with the baby sick all week, it wasn't happening. Next week, the girls and I have an unusual amount of local tasks to get done, and with the warehouse store being an hour away, it needed to happen today--either alone, or with the whole family. Thankfully, Shawn was ready to hit the road and visit the store with me. He rarely gets to go, so he enjoys it every once in a while!
When we woke up, I texted my sister so we could stack the trip and visit her family for a bit before shopping. She, very unexpectedly I might add, offered to keep all three of our kids so Shawn and I could shop on our own and even go to lunch. Luxurious, am I right?
We happily took her up on it, and boy, was it needed! Shopping leisurely without worrying about someone needing to use the potty, or asking for something they know we don't ever buy, or having to say, "no" to the thing we sometimes buy but just isn't in the budget or diet anymore was more enjoyable than I remembered!

The conversations we were able to have together while strolling the aisles was perfect. Since he very, very, very rarely shops with me, he hasn't really seen just how much we've changed what we buy and the criteria for "making the cut." He has seen the changes at home, but he hadn't seen the work that goes into it. So it was nice to see that he appreciated how much time I spent and how I quickly was okay with skipping items I normally would have loved to have.
It was also nice just chatting. Talking about dreams, things we hope will happen, things that have happened, and everything in between. We live far from family, so dates are so few and far between. So getting the time together was so incredibly nice.
And the warehouse store was a nice choice, since we were easily able to drop nearly $400 on groceries, and then get a cheap lunch to enjoy together!
It's crazy to think that a normal errand that just has to happen is the perfect date at this stage in my life, but today was blissful and just what we needed.
Hitting the club hits different now!
