Why I Quit Hulu's The Handmaids Tale and other stories

I love a good TV show as much as the next mom.
Curling up on the couch after finally getting the kids to sleep, eating some ice cream or other "forbidden" snack, and catching up with my favorite shows has been a favorite pastime of mine since BEFORE I had kids to put to sleep!
Recently, I have found myself "unsubscribing" from shows I used to find entertaining. The most recent, Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale.

I recently sat down to watch this newest season. It was a nice break from the multitude of current shows talking non-stop about COVID, but then Hollywood did what Hollywood does best--it pushed an agenda forward.
Abortion.
In a flashback, one of the characters consults a pregnancy help center and receives the truth about the typical abortion--that a tube is inserted and annihilates the baby within. The woman working at the center offers to show her the options she has available, but she declines and walks away. (Hollywood can't show that pregnancy help centers help beyond the pregnancy because it doesn't align with their agenda, but if you do the research, you’ll find that they provide support during the pregnancy, throughout infanthood, and sometimes even beyond that!)
She then goes to an abortion clinic where the doctor dismisses what the help center presented as blatant lies and fear mongering.
You see, this show presented it this way because the abortion industry (and don’t be fooled, it is an industry--$831 million a year charged to women in the name of freedom of choice), is currently using the COVID lockdowns to further their own agenda and make it "easier" for women to abort their babies.
The abortion industry was successful in legislating access to abortion over the phone stating that, because of the pandemic, women's lives were at risk if they had to venture out and get a traditional abortion. And so, women can schedule a tele-health visit, request the abortion pill, and it is sent directly to their pharmacy or even their house. No examination, no ultrasound, no follow-up visit.
This is the second show I have come across (and have since “unsubscribed from”) that has shown this form of abortion.
Coincidence? More like desensitization.
Hollywood and the abortion industry want to make abortion seem simple, clean, and uncomplicated. They don’t want to share the facts or present the complications that can arise from this type of abortion including hemorrhaging, infection or sepsis, undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy, an incomplete abortion or death.
But the facts are still facts.
And the biggest fact is that abortion is killing an image bearer of God.
Plain and simple.
It is ripping a life that didn't ask to be created, didn't ask to be killed, away from the chance at living.
It is preventing a family that desperately wants a child from being able to adopt that child.
It is tearing a woman's soul apart in the process.
The Lord is clear on abortion.
Human life is unlike any other life because we are made in the very image of God (Genesis 1:26-31, 2:4-25)
Children are a blessing (Genesis 1:28, Psalm 127:3)
Children in the womb are fully human and have a relationship with the Lord (Psalm 139:13,15)
The innocent should not be killed (Exodus 20:13)
And He is also clear on what we watch, read, and listen to.

"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” Colossians 3:2
So, it is clear that the shows that Hollywood is churning out, that I happily used to sit and watch, are not for me any longer.
So, stop and consider, are they suitable for you?
Dear Lord, please give this momma reading this a discerning heart. Help her to set her mind on the things that are good and pleasing to you, and to step away from the things from earth that are not. Lord, this isn’t an easy thing to change, so give her courage and the self-control to decide to change for you.
Amen
